Antony and Cleopatra (1623) is a historical tragedy by William Shakespeare. Mark Antony, one of the Triumviri of Rome, has ignores his soldierly duties after being beguiled by Egypt's Queen, Cleopatra. Octavius calls Antony back to Rome from Alexandria in order to help him fight against Pompey , Menacretes, and Menas, three notorious pirates. Cleopatra begs Antony not to go, and though he repeatedly affirms his love for her, he eventually leaves.
